To Live is Christ to Die is Gain (Phil. 1:21)

Talking about mortality, death, is something no one wants to mention; let alone talk about. Most of the time the subject only comes up when we have lost a loved one whether over time or suddenly. Mostly it is when you lose a loved one suddenly does the subject of mortality come up.

Today, though I want to talk about mortality and how short life can be. When we think about a life span of 50 years or even 90 years, there are only 90 Christmas mornings, 90 birthdays, maybe 500 family dinners, and yes countless days together if you are married. Yes, when you have kids you have them sometimes for 18 years at home, maybe more. But with 18 years at home you have maybe 4,000 days together if you are lucky. Most of the time it will be closer to 2,000 days. Life is short.

Our time together is also short. We have busy lives and busy jobs. There is always something happening or something that needs to be done. In the moment we don’t think about the limited time we have here or the limited time we have with others.

Have you ever thought how much time you have with God on earth? Again, take in to consideration your age, and how you spend you time. If you are my age, 54, and you spend most of your days taking care of home, and family. Then other days you work and volunteer. So you have Sunday mornings with God. Right- that gives you approximately 2,000 Sundays with God. I want you to take the time to think about these numbers.

I know it is hard. But how we live our lives is important. And that is what I am talking about in my episode today. Life is short. We are mortal. Some day we will die. But as long as we are here on earth our priority needs to be God’s work. It needs to be our relationship with him, and our the ones we love.

I encourage you to join me today in thinking about your life. How are you going to spend the rest of your year- your life?
